Standing Guard, the Centurion of Light

The tranquility of this scene gives a false sense of peace. The guiding light in table bay that brought weary sailors home through its gates and out of the stormy seas.

Fishing for light in Chaka's Rock, Kwazulu Natal

In Many ways, the life of a landscape photographer is similar to that of a fisherman. Up before dawn, finding the right spot, readying the equipment and then soaking in the moment as the light seeps through earths blanket.

The only difference, we are fishing for light.

What fun! had an absolute blast playing with the lights. 

Serenity...

A still crisp morning, frost on the ground and another clear highveld morning.

In the distance, the wirr of the reel of a fly fisherman, the flick and then the still waters, ripple.

But within seconds, it is back to serenity.

Solitude

The winters chill slowly seeping through to the bone, yet I am strangely at peace. Camera in hand, catching the sunrise, alone, or so I thought.

Through the mist rising off the lake it appeared, as if to worship the sun it stood there in perfect solitude.

An ode to Eskom.

A another typical highveld summer thunderstorm, the rolling thunder as the sky lights up again and again. Each moment bringing with it a flash, a crash and a deep rumble.

Yet inside, it is still!

The irony of so much thunderous energy around us and Eskom load shedding, yet again.

Moonlight in the bush, Castaro Game Reserve

The calm of a full moon throwing its light over the bush cloaks the hustle and bustle around us. It is so alive!

Yet can a dead tree be alive too?

Great Expectations

Oh, the emotions... The fear, the love, the joy and the frustration of when will this be over is written all over the faces of a pregnant couple and the privilege to photograph it is mine.

There is nothing like documenting a moment in time, one just before the storm where the calm prevails on the surface.

Their lives will never be the same again, for ever shelved in the great library of life.

Will he be like me, like her, like him, like the two of us, whos nose, ears smile?

Oh that guilty look....

She sits not posing, or so she says, yet that smile tells a thousand tales.


"So where are those angels" she asks? or so she would have us believe, but if you look closely you will see... closer.. closer, just there on her left shoulder, he sits.


"They are not watching" he pleads, but she knows....

The smoke that Thunders.

Time stands still as one stares in wonder, mist caressing the skin, wispy residue of the smoke that thunders.

Doing it justice, even for a split second of time, is a difficult photographic assignment. How to capture one of God's seven natural wonders?

Being a teenager amongst a heard of Elephants in the Chobe reserve has got to be it...


Came across these kids frolicking with their brothers and sisters on the banks of the Chobe river.

So a croc is nearby.. so what, you would not dare.

Wow, what peace!

Capturing life in full colour...

Christmas eve with the family, a wonderful time and an opportunity to catch the family in full flight. The B&W close crop really appeals to me, capturing light and life in full blown "colour".
